SINCE OCTOBER 7 AND AS OF THE FILING OF THIS TAX RETURN, UJA HAS ALLOCATED MORE THAN $182 MILLION TO ADDRESS ACUTE EMERGENCY NEEDS IN ISRAEL WHILE ALSO INVESTING IN PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL, (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O)AND ECONOMIC RECOVERY. IN RESPONSE TO RISING ANTISEMITISM, PARTICULARLY FOLLOWING OCTOBER 7, UJA HAS DEVELOPED AND FUNDED PROGRAMS TO ENHANCE SECURITY FOR JEWISH INSTITUTIONS IN THE NEW YORK AREA AND TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF JEWISH COLLEGE STUDENTS ON CAMPUS.
CARING FOR PEOPLE IN NEED:UJA ALLOCATES FUNDS TO HUNDREDS OF NONPROFITS TO SUPPORT PROGRAMS THAT PROVIDE ESSENTIAL AID AND SERVICES TO HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE EACH YEAR IN NEW YORK CITY, WESTCHESTER COUNTY, AND LONG ISLAND. THESE NONPROFITS SERVE BOTH THE JEWISH COMMUNITY AND THE BROADER NEW YORK POPULATION, INCLUDING SENIORS, HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS, SINGLE PARENTS, AND INDIVIDUALS WITH AUTISM AND DISABILITIES. THE SERVICES THEY OFFER INCLUDE HOUSING, MEDICAL CARE, END-OF-LIFE AND PALLIATIVE CARE, MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING, EDUCATION, FOOD PROGRAMS, AND VOCATIONAL TRAINING AND GUIDANCE. UJA ALSO PROMOTES VOLUNTEERISM BY FACILITATING THE RECRUITMENT AND TRAINING OF VOLUNTEERS WHO SERVE CLIENTS AT NUMEROUS (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O)NONPROFITS. ADDITIONALLY, UJA SUPPORTS PROGRAMS IN ISRAEL AND NEARLY 70 OTHER COUNTRIES WORLDWIDE THAT PROVIDE BASIC HUMAN SERVICES.
DEEPENING JEWISH ENGAGEMENT AND STRENGTHENING JEWISH COMMUNITIES ("JEWISH LIFE")UJA SUPPORTS INNOVATIVE INITIATIVES THAT ENCOURAGE JEWS OF ALL AGES TO EXPLORE THEIR JEWISH IDENTITY AND FUNDS A VARIETY OF PROGRAMS ACROSS THE SPECTRUM OF THE JEWISH COMMUNITY. THESE PROGRAMS STRENGTHEN SYNAGOGUES, SUPPORT COLLEGE STUDENTS BY PROMOTING JEWISH LIFE ON CAMPUS, CONNECT YOUNG JEWS TO ISRAEL, AND CREATE AN INCLUSIVE AND WELCOMING COMMUNITY FOR ALL JEWS. AS PART OF ITS COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION AND LIFELONG LEARNING, UJA SUPPORTS BOTH INFORMAL AND FORMAL JEWISH EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS.
